This questions comes around a lot and the general answer is No shared hosting is fine for SEO purposes. Although you are generally fine from a SEO standpoint with shared hosting I would like to elaborate on a few way that shared hosting can in fact cause SEO problems.
1. Others websites on your server get lots of traffic and slow down your website.
This should be your biggest concern when it comes to shared hosting. One of the most important factors when it comes to SEO is the load time of your website. if you notice your site going really slowly you need to either purchases dedicated hosting or switch hosting providers.
2. You loose customer trust with non HTTPS website.
So when you access a website it is either over HTTP protocol or HTTPS protocol. HTTPS means that all the information being passed back and forth is encrypted while HTTP is not. When it comes to SEO we always like to use HTTPS so people feels secure browsing and using our website. Unfortunately shared hosting does not support HTTPS protocol.
3. Your emails might get sent to people SPAM folder.
This is not directly SEO related, but if you are sending emails from a shared hosting company and they are going to people spam box it is very possible that others on that same server are spamming out emails and causing your email to get sent to spam.
4. Neighborhood Porn/SPAM websites can cause problems (On Occasion).
This is much less likely as google has pretty good at recognizing when a websites is on shared hosting and not “de-ranking” it just because of bad neighbor hood sites. However their are occasions where one server will be so diluted with bad sites that google does in fact de-evaluate all sites on that server.
To summarize shared hosting is generally going to fine for your websites, however if you are very concerned with SEO you might consider just getting dedicated hosting, it’s usually only a few bucks more.
